The Marshall Family Practice Residency offers an excellent, balanced educational program which gives residents a wide range of clinical knowledge and the confidence to apply that knowledge throughout the residency and beyond. It is a broad-based program which is designed to offer the resident significant flexibility throughout the three year experience, particularly in the third year which includes five to six months of elective time. Residents begin early to develop their own patient base at the Family Practice Center, starting with 1/2 day per week in the first year and working up to three to four half-days per week in the third year. Every Thursday afternoon we come together as a group to share didactic conferences and some practical workshops, as well as to meet to share experiences and discuss issues pertinent to the group. While the call schedule varies from rotation to rotation, first year residents are generally on call every fourth night with the number of call nights significantly decreasing as one progresses through the second and third years. In addition to the outstanding family practice education available, the Marshall program is recognized for unique strengths in the areas of rural and community medicine, international health, sports medicine, occupational medicine, geriatrics, and women's health.
